The Rick Hayes Award for Artistic Achievement

The St. Mark’s Players are pleased to announce the creation of the Rick Hayes Award for Artistic Achievement.  Initially funded by an anonymous donor, the award will be given from time to time to mark excellence in an SMP production, whether as a performer, musician, or in a technical capacity.

The award is a suitable memorial to the exceptionally talented Rick, and its inclusive nature reflects Rick’s versatility, who excelled as a Director, Actor, hair and make-up artist and light operator.  The first award will be made at the 2018 Annual Meeting.

To make the award an enduring one, the St. Mark’s Players are gratefully accepting contributions to the award fund.

Rick was a major part of the St. Mark’s Players for most of its existence, serving as President, Artistic Director, and Board member, as well as Director of some of its most successful productions, including Pippin, M Butterfly, My Fair Lady, A Little Night Music, The Importance of Being Earnest, Chicago, Cabaret and most recently, Fiddler on the Roof.

Under Rick’s direction, Pippin received the WATCH award for Best Musical.   Rick also received a WATCH nomination as an actor for the role of Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar. Additionally, he received WATCH nominations in several other technical categories.

Rick loved community theater and the opportunities for growth it provided its participants. He directed, held technical roles, and acted in many other community productions throughout the area.
